How Can I Trust God?

Read

Psalm 111:7 “The works of his hands are faithful and just; all his precepts are trustworthy.”

Think

Have you ever peered behind the walls of your home during renovations? It’s a sight of chaos, wires snaking, pipes looping, support beams scattered, and insulation in disarray. Your contractor may give you a timeline, but when you're in the middle of the clutter, it can feel overwhelming. Sometimes, life mirrors this chaos. It’s easy to see the mess as progress when it’s a home renovation, but when our hearts and lives feel shattered, it's hard to find the good amid the debris of anxiety, fear, and broken trust.

As Christians, we may struggle when life deviates from our plans or when relationships falter. We might feel tempted to tame God rather than trust Him. Demanding the Builder's tools, we frantically patch and cover, seeking quick fixes that often leave us more burdened and exhausted internally, despite outward appearances of faith.

This disconnect between the faith we desire and the reality we live is a common struggle. We see it in tear-filled eyes and hear it in questions about God’s ways. So, how do we rebuild trust in God? The starting point is his Word.

God’s trustworthy character shines through every page of Scripture. From his covenant promises with Abraham, Moses, and David to his faithful provision for the Israelites in the wilderness, his trustworthiness is evident. Yet, the ultimate display of his faithfulness is seen in sending Jesus to conquer sin and death, fulfilling the promise made to Adam and Eve.

In Psalm 111:7, the psalmist proclaims God's works as faithful and just, emphasizing his trustworthiness. The Hebrew word for “trustworthy” in this verse encompasses loyalty, faithfulness, and dependability – qualities found abundantly in God. When we immerse ourselves in his faithfulness recorded in Scripture, our trust in Him grows stronger, anchoring our faith and renovating our hearts. Remembering his faithfulness leads us to trust that God can be relied upon in every circumstance.

Apply

Write down answered prayers, unexpected blessings, and times when God showed up in ways you didn't anticipate. Reminding yourself of these will strengthen your faith and your trust in his care and provision.

Pray

Lord, I confess that there are times when my trust in you wavers, when doubts and fears cloud my vision. In your Word, I find assurance of your unwavering faithfulness. You are the Builder who restores broken hearts, renovates weary souls, and brings order to the chaos of my life. Help me seek wise counsel where I can be encouraged to trust you more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
