Ecclesiastes 4:9-10,12, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labor: If either of them falls down, one can help the other up. … Though one may be overpowered, two can defend themselves. A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.”
Two are better than one, simple. God puts it on the bottom shelf for us. However, simple doesn’t always mean easy. It’s not a hard concept to grasp. However, it can be very counter-cultural in a world that encourages the “self-made man” and promoting ourselves even if it’s at the cost of others around us. The world measure success based on whether you can outrun and outdo the other people around you, but Jesus turns everything upside down! Instead, He says success is measured by the relationship we have with Him and then the relationships we have with others.
Just like this verse says, we are all better in a group! Jesus didn’t create us to do life alone. We have to link arms with others. Who are you linked up to? When you look to your left and to your right you should see people that will help keep you accountable and encourage you in your pursuit of God’s plan for your life! If you don’t have a group that is doing this for you, you’re missing out on your best life!
First, if you don’t have people in your life who are encouraging you to pursue God’s best, join a group! Go back to the home page and click “Groups”, select your campus, and pick a group near you. If you are already in a group, reach out to someone in your group today and encourage them. Let them know that you support them and are praying for them. A simple text or call can change someone’s day!
Jesus, help me make it a priority to surround myself with others for encouragement and support. I hand over my “self-made” definition of success to you. Teach me what it means to truly be successful. Amen.
