1 Samuel 2:2, “There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God.”
We discovered yesterday that Hannah’s prayer began with a heart full of joy, rejoicing in the Lord, her deliverer. Today, her delight in God as her saving protector turns to a declaration of God as her sovereign Lord. Hannah confesses with conviction that there is no one holy like God.
Holiness is often associated with moral behavior; avoid certain actions and you demonstrate holiness. But the Bible reveals that holiness is a much broader concept. It speaks to God’s complete and utter otherness in relationship to everything in this world, including you and me. There is no person or thing like God. He has no equal, no rival.
Hannah knew that God was holy, completely other. In her prayer, she audibly declares that there is no rock, no foundation, like God. On him, she stands safe and secure. God is her source of strength. Hannah looks nowhere else. Her loyalty is to God and to him alone!
Take this moment to ask and reflect on the following questions. Who do I really trust for everything in my life? Am I loyal to God? Do I truly believe that God is my source? After reflecting, make Hannah’s declaration of God your declaration of God.
Lord, no one holy is like you. There is no one besides you. There is no rock like you. I trust you, God. My loyalty is to you and you alone! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
