Romans 6:4, “We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.”
Baptism is an outward expression of an inward decision — a personal choice made public the moment we identify with Jesus. In fact, it’s the first act of obedience as a newly-minted Christian.
“Baptizo” means immersion. It’s practiced because John the Baptist fully immersed Jesus in the Jordan River. When Jesus came up out of the water, the Holy Spirit descended upon him in the form of a dove and God spoke from Heaven saying, “This is my son with whom I’m well pleased.”
Today, we will not only hear a great message from our Pastor, but we will also witness the resounding impact made by those publically taking their first step of obedience as Christ-followers. Right before our eyes, we will see many lives forever changed as they symbolically die to themselves and rise again to a new life in Christ. Their message to the world: We cried “Mayday,” and the Lord came to our rescue!
If you have accepted Christ, but have yet to be baptized, today is the day! During each experience, every new Christ-follower will have the chance to take this first step of obedience.
God, I thank you for a church like Fellowship Church that practices true biblical teaching. I can’t wait to see you move in the hearts of many as they make the most important decision of their lives by believing in you and sharing their own powerful, real-life sermon! In Jesus’ name. Amen.
