Proverbs 10:11, “The words of the godly are a life-giving fountain.”
Are you more like Tigger or Eeyore?
The people we connect with can usually be divided into one of two categories from the Winnie the Pooh series: Tigger and Eeyore. Tigger is the life of the party, bouncing around lifting everyone’s spirits and exuding joy, while Eeyore is always down-in-the-dumps sucking all the cheerful air out of the room.
In today’s important passage, God describes how we are to be like Tigger, not Eeyore. Life has a way of bringing people down, but as Christians, God wants us to bring joy to others. He proved this by sending his Son for the very same reason. As John 10:10 tells us, “Jesus came that others might have more joy in their lives.”
The #1 most contagious thing anywhere is enthusiasm. The #2 most contagious thing is lack of enthusiasm. And if there’s anything our world needs more of, it is joyful enthusiasm! Therefore, purpose in your heart to not be like Eeyore, throwing cold water on others; but instead, strive to be more like Tigger, a contagious life-giving fountain to everyone you connect with.
Today, as you go about your daily duties, keep the vivid picture of Tigger and Eeyore in your mind, and try your best to lift people’s spirits with an authentic, joyful attitude. Then, after each encounter, ask yourself, “Was I more like Tigger or Eeyore?”
Jesus, thank you for coming into our world and bringing joy into our lives. I know you want me to help others to next-level their joy just as you have done for me. Remind me to lead the way with a joyful enthusiasm that not only inspires others, but makes them want to know where my source of joy comes from. I pray this in Jesus’ name, Amen.
