1 Samuel 10:10-11, “Then the Spirit of God came powerfully upon Saul, and he, too, began to prophesy. When those who knew Saul heard about it, they exclaimed, “What? Is even Saul a prophet? How did the son of Kish become a prophet?”
1 Thessalonians 5:11, “…encourage one another and build each other up…”
Have you ever experienced a success only to find yourself under fire from critics? Saul could relate. Once word spread that he was the new king, he was criticized the most by those who knew him best. They questioned his qualifications and challenged the sincerity of his worship. Saul’s confidence took a major hit when he listened to these belittling buddies that made him the target of their jokes.
Jesus said, ”A prophet is without honor only in his hometown,” meaning those who are familiar with you are often the first to try to play down your promotion due to jealousy and envy. Don’t listen to unhealthy criticism like Saul did or it will bury you.
