2 Timothy 1:7, “For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”
Emotions are God-given feelings that are meant to help us process responses to experiences in life. As with many things God has given us, there are also counterfeit emotions. Instead of being helpful to us, counterfeit emotions can hold us hostage within ourselves.
Fear is a powerful emotion that can stop us in our tracks. In its God-given form, fear cautions us and keeps us out of harm’s way. Conversely, the counterfeit emotion of False Evidence Appearing Real (F.E.A.R.) is the unhealthy side of this emotion. Fear gone awry can cause us to react impulsively and live ineffectively. But, when we choose to live by faith in the God who created us, we can tap into the power, love, and self-control that he has placed inside of us.
Avoid FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) for what God has for you. Live by faith, and he will empower you to live an intentional life of love. You can be a world-changer!
Write today’s verse on a note card and keep it where it is visible. Let it be a reminder of what God has placed in you to help you overcome your fear.
Heavenly Father, thank you for equipping me with emotions. There are times when I allow those emotions to go awry and keep me from all you have for me. Help me to use the self-control you have placed in me so that I can walk in the power and love you continuously provide. In Jesus’ name, Amen!
