Psalm 33:12, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord!”
America is the greatest nation on earth and today we celebrate the birth of freedom. We recite the Pledge of Allegiance. We sing “The Star-Spangled Banner.” We shoot fireworks into the night sky to celebrate this amazing country’s independence. Our founding fathers believed that America could be the greatest nation on earth if God was at the center of all legislation and motivation.
Over the years, gradualism has seeped in sending morals on a downward spiral. This decline in values has influenced our policy and perspective on a variety of issues. And, sadly, when God is eliminated from our decision-making, we lose the moral compass he’s given us. Our current president ran on the slogan “Make America Great Again,” but the only way for our nation to be blessed is when we “Make America Godly Again!” And, yes, it is possible! In Scripture, God promises that if we will humble ourselves, pray, turn from our sin and look to him for direction, he will heal our land!
On this day as we celebrate the many freedoms we all enjoy, stop and take a few moments to thank God for the privilege of living in our nation – a nation protected by men and women who have sacrificed and are now sacrificing their lives to defend those freedoms.
God, I am so grateful that I live in the greatest country on earth. Forgive us when we stray from you. Guide our leaders, showing them the paths to follow. Thank you for the courageous men and women who have fought in our military to defend the freedoms we enjoy and comfort the families who have lost loved ones. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
