Matthew 16:13,16, “Jesus asked his disciples, “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Messiah, the Son of the living God.”
The all-important question…
The disciples had stepped into a rollercoaster life as they traveled with Jesus. They witnessed miracles and heard his incredible teaching. And yet, they still didn’t grasp his true identity. Now, after being confronted with the question of “Who do people say the Son of Man is?” their first response was “…one of the great prophets.” Just a man, really. But Peter’s declaration that Jesus was “…the Messiah, the Son of the living God” was a pinnacle moment. The scales had finally begun to fall from their eyes. God had begun to reveal to them who Jesus really was.
We are confronted with the same, life-altering question today. We have a choice to see the evidence and facts before us. Will we say that he is merely a great man, a great prophet to be remembered and revered? Or, will we declare that he is the Messiah, the Son of the living God, the Savior of the world – Your Savior? It’s the most important question we will ever answer. Who do you say Jesus is?
Take some time to consider Jesus in your life. Write out your answer to his question: “Who do you say that I am?” Now, evaluate your actions. Do your actions align with the words you speak?
Heavenly Father, thank you for sending your son, Jesus. I rely solely upon him to keep me secure on this rollercoaster called life. Help me to never take my relationship with you for granted. I will always declare that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of the living God! In Jesus’ name, Amen.
