Agape Way
Read:
1 John 4:10-11, “This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.”
Think:
Andrea Mosconi was an Italian maestro who, for decades, walked to the City Hall in Cremona, Italy and entered the violin museum every day except Sunday. The centuries old violins there were so ancient that they needed delicate attention and care. Mr. Mosconi said his job description was simply “to play music,”, but he brought out the best in these sensitive, delicate, fragile instruments. We have the opportunity to do the same. We can bring out the best in people.
Agape love is about choice, not attraction or obligation. It is an unselfish, pure decision even if it isn't returned, earned or deserved. Agape love flows from God through us to others. When we focus on God, He will draw our attention to others. Without Jesus, all we do is take and, at best, love conditionally. We cannot love agape-like without our eyes fixed on Him.
Act:
Agape love serves, gives. Find someone and be generous. Go out of your way to be kind today.
Pray:
Jesus, expand our understanding of Your love. Expand our faith. Fill us with Your power so that others may see You. Amen.
