Think
Many of us love Jesus as our Savior—he’s the one who offers us forgiveness, hope, and eternal life. But when it comes to following his example, it’s easy to hesitate. We admire Jesus, but becoming like him can feel daunting. Dietrich Bonhoeffer once said, "When Christ calls a man, he bids him come and die." It’s not just about embracing his sacrifice but also about adopting his way of life—a life that challenges the norms of our world.
Following Jesus isn’t just about believing; it’s about becoming. It’s about proclaiming good news, washing feet, carrying crosses, and loving those society often overlooks. In a world that tells us to look out for ourselves, Jesus calls us to care for the stranger, love our enemies, and seek the lost. Where culture says, "Grasp what you can," Jesus says, "Give freely." And when we feel the urge to fight back, Christ whispers, "Forgive." His way defies the world's expectations, but it’s the only way that leads to true transformation.
Jesus modeled a radically different kind of life that changed the world not by following society’s script but by rewriting it. No one ever changed the world by doing what the world said do. Following his example, we aren’t just living better lives; we’re becoming agents of change in a broken world. So, the question remains: are we willing to abandon the world’s way in order to follow the One who gave everything for us?
Apply
Choose to act like Jesus by putting someone else’s needs above yours today. Maybe it’s being kind to a stranger, helping a friend through a tough time, or doing an extra chore around the house. Be creative and watch for opportunities to go against the grain.
Pray
Lord, I want to follow you, not just in belief but in action. Help me to live like you did—loving those around me, giving freely, and forgiving those who hurt me. Show me how to step away from the world’s ways and walk in your footsteps, even when it’s hard. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
