Christian Home
Read:
Ephesians 6:1-3 “Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ‘Honor your father and mother’—which is the first commandment with a promise— ‘so that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth.’”
Think:
After a momentous family dedication service at church, the parents were driving home with their 4-year-old son who seemed upset in the back seat. When they asked him what was wrong, he tearfully replied, "The preacher said he wanted us to be raised in a Christian home, but I want to stay with you guys!"
Raising children to love and follow the Lord in a genuine and authentic household is a monumental task in today's world. As parents, it is our responsibility to model God's discipline and expectations for obedience. Is it truly possible to raise respectful and obedient children, or is it just a lofty aspiration? Unfortunately, many parents are neglecting their duty to train and nurture their children in the ways of the Lord, passing the responsibility on to others or claiming they are too busy. However, it is essential to remember that instilling love for Jesus and his house in your children is primarily your responsibility as a parent. No one else has a stronger emotional investment in your child's upbringing than you.
Embrace the joys and challenges of parenting, even though it may be time-consuming and exhausting, as it reaps incredible dividends.
Apply:
Be consistent with the children in your life. They are most likely to emulate the things that you believe are important.
Pray:
Jesus, help me today as I raise children to become followers of you. Help me lead them in ways that would honor you. Help me raise children that will respect your laws and leading. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
