Coram Deo
Read:
Psalm 139:7 “Where can I go from your Spirit? Or where can I flee from your presence?”
Think:
"Coram Deo" is a powerful Latin phrase that captures the essence of the Christian life. It simply means living in “the presence of God.” This includes acknowledging his authority and seeking to bring glory to his name. When we embrace the concept of living "Coram Deo," we understand that God is ever-present, observing our actions, regardless of what we are doing or when we are doing it. We become acutely aware of his watchful gaze. Living "Coram Deo" goes beyond a mere fear of punishment; it encompasses a deep reverence for God's honor and a desire to offer him the respect he deserves. It is a recognition of his majestic nature.
Living "Coram Deo" rejects the idea of compartmentalizing our lives. We cannot separate our existence into "religious" and "nonreligious" spheres while claiming to live in God's presence. Whether we are pastors or plumbers, we are responding to God's calling. Just as David faithfully served God as a shepherd before becoming a king, living "Coram Deo" means dedicating every aspect of our lives to God. It is a guiding principle that encourages us to live totally for God, without reservation or distinction.
Apply:
Are you all in? Or do you compartmentalize most things? Give it all to him today knowing we can't hide from him.
Pray:
God, you know my successes and failures. I give it all to you. I don't want to be a Christian in one area and different in another. I want to please you. Help me to honor you in all areas of my life. In Jesus' name, Amen.
