Faithful Even When We're Faithless
Read
2 Timothy 2:11-13 "Here is a trustworthy saying: If we died with him, we will also live with him; if we endure, we will also reign with him. If we disown him, he will also disown us; if we are faithless, he remains faithful, for he cannot disown himself."
Think
Life is filled with commitments and promises, yet how often do we not uphold them? Think of the New Year's resolutions abandoned or the promises to ourselves broken. We vow to change, to improve, only to slide back into old habits and ways. In contrast to our wavering commitment, God's faithfulness never wavers. He doesn't give up on us or abandon his promises. God remains faithful even when we are faithless. It's in his very nature.
Consider what this means for our lives. Our faithfulness can falter due to fear, doubt, or simple human weakness. We make mistakes, we fail, and we stray. But God's faithfulness is unwavering and unbreakable. He never forsakes his promises or those who love him. This isn't a license to be complacent or careless with our commitments, but rather an invitation to lean into God's faithfulness, to draw strength and resolve from his steadfast love and dedication.
We are human; we will stumble. But our faith is not in our ability to be flawless; it's in God's unwavering commitment to us. It's not about striving to earn God's love but resting in the assurance that his love is already ours, unchanging and eternal. Knowing that God's faithfulness is steadfast, even when we stumble, gives us the solid foundation upon which we can build our lives, grow in our faith, and walk confidently in our journey with him.
