Firm Footing: The Shoes of Peace
Read
Ephesians 6:15 "…And with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace."
Think
Every component of a soldier's armor has a unique significance, and footwear is no exception. In battle, a soldier's stability and readiness can mean the difference between life and death. Similarly, as Christ-followers, our footing in the gospel—the good news of Jesus Christ—offers us both stability in our faith and a readiness to share that faith with others.
The "gospel of peace" does more than bring personal salvation to our souls. It is our grounding, enabling us to withstand life's battles and uncertainties. The gospel offers us constant assurance when the ground beneath us feels shaky—whether from personal trials, global tragedies, or moments of doubt. We can stand firm, knowing that God proved his love when he sent Jesus, so we can be confident that no challenge can separate us from his love.
But there's another component to these boots: readiness. When we understand the freedom and peace we've been given by Jesus, there's a natural desire to share this treasure with others. It's a readiness not born from obligation, but from gratitude and love.
Apply
Reflect on a moment when the truth of God brought you peace in a challenging time. Consider someone in your life who might benefit from that same truth. Have an open conversation about your faith with that person this week. It could be a simple sharing of your story, a comforting scripture, or the gospel. Ask God to open the door and give you the words you need!
Pray
Lord, thank you for the gospel of peace that gives me solid ground on which to stand. Guide my steps and conversations so that I may be a light of your love and truth. In Jesus' name. Amen.
