Focus On The Fish
Read
Philippians 4:8 “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.”
Think
Have you ever had that moment of triumph, reeling in a trophy fish and feeling an exhilarating sense of pride? It's like a switch flips; suddenly, you're not just a fisherman but a history-making angler, reliving the details in your mind. Your brain takes a hyper-fixated journey through the world of fishing, and it seems like fishing-related things are everywhere –from TV ads to social media pop-ups. This intense focus isn't unique to fishing; whether it's house design, hunting, flea markets, or football, we all have that one thing that captures our attention, making billboards seem like personalized messages for our passion.
Here's a profound truth that transcends our hobbies: what we focus on, we magnify. It's not about changing the object's physical size; it's about making it larger in our minds. Consider applying this principle to our problems or negative thoughts – when we consistently focus on them, they grow larger than reality. The key lies in changing our perception. Shifting our focus from challenges to God's word, promises, and desires transforms our mindset, shaping our future.
Where we direct our focus becomes the center of our thoughts, essentially guiding our lives. Let's be intentional about what captures our attention. When we fix our gaze on God and His unchanging promises, His greatness is magnified, and our problems diminish in comparison. Focusing on His word becomes the roadmap guiding our steps toward a future filled with His purpose. Our focus can pivot towards a spiritual perspective, and our purpose and passion will naturally follow suit. Our minds and focus will mirror Jesus when we allow His word to guide and shape our focus.
Apply
Capture your thoughts and direct them toward God's truth. Say this 3 times a day: I have the mind of Christ. I have the righteousness of Christ. I'm accepted in Christ. I'm forgiven in Christ. I'm gifted in Christ. I'm strengthened in Christ.
Pray
God, help us direct our minds to your eternal truths. Pivot our focus towards a spiritual perspective, mirroring the mindset of Jesus. May your word be our guide, shaping our focus, purpose, and passions. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
