Every one of us has opportunities in this life to discover God's will and do his work. We have the chance to make a difference in others' lives using the gifts and talents God has given us. Our purpose is to be faithful to our Heavenly Father and the work he calls us to do for his Kingdom. In Matthew 25, Jesus tells a parable that offers valuable lessons on how we should use our lives and gifts.
In this parable, a man going on a journey entrusts his wealth to his servants according to their abilities. His only expectation was for them to invest their gifts to the best of their abilities in order to benefit his estate. Likewise, God has given each of us unique gifts, talents, and abilities. Some may have more than others, but each gift is equally important because they all come from the Lord. It’s not about how much we have but what we do with what we have that matters to God.
We all have opportunities to use our talents to honor God and bless others, regardless of the number or size of our gifts. The only inexcusable thing is not using our gifts at all. When we choose to use our talents to further God's Kingdom, we bring glory to him.
God has entrusted his glory to us so that we might multiply it through our lives. This doesn’t mean making God more glorious but magnifying his glory by wisely investing what he has given us. By not burying or squandering our gifts, we become faithful servants of Christ. And one day, by his grace, we will hear, “Well done, good and faithful servant! Come share in your master’s happiness.”
Apply
Ask God to show you your unique gifts and talents. Look for ways that you can use those gifts, in your home, work, church – all to glorify Jesus. Be faithful with your gifts and talents and you will find them multiply.
Pray
Lord, I ask for your guidance as I seek to identify and use my gifts for your glory. Open my eyes to the opportunities around me to make a difference in the lives of others. Help me to see where I can serve and how I can be a blessing to others. Remind me that it is about my faithfulness, not the quantity of the gift. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
