Growing Room
Read:
Luke 2:52 “And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.”
Think:
Every year around the same time the natural world comes alive. Occasionally, it appears that everything turns green overnight. But sometimes you have to wait for a rosebush to grow those heavy, deep red blooms. Sometimes it takes a while for the blossom on the fruit trees to develop into fully ripened apples. Growth in nature takes time; it requires water, sun, and nutrients from the soil. Spiritual growth works the same way. We grow in process, in systems. We require a few ingredients in order to mature in our faith. Just like Jesus grew in wisdom, when we hunger and thirst after knowledge we will also grow. Spending time in the Word is crucial to developing wisdom.
Jesus also grew in stature. He practiced healthy habits that enabled him to grow. We can observe wholesome habits that will enable us to take care of our physical bodies, and taking care of ourselves will allow us to serve others and to serve God. Finally, growing in favor with God and man suggests that we are intentional with our relationships. It implies nurturing close relationships with God and others, spending time with Jesus and loved ones. Jesus came to bring us life and life abundantly! No matter where we are there’s always room to grow!
Apply:
Where are you in the growth journey? Do you need to apply yourself spiritually? Physically? Today, spend some time with Jesus and then do something physical that will help your body.
Pray:
Jesus, help me to grow stronger. Enable me to pursue your wisdom, healthy habits and deeper relationships. Allow me to become the person you created me to be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
