Just Rest
Read:
Matthew 11:28-30, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”
Think:
It is the first month of the year, and some people already feel the weight of life’s burdens and issues. Jesus says, “Come to me all you who are weary.” Most of us, when we think of rest, think of relaxing, sitting down on the couch for a moment. But His promise is for spiritual rest. This rest is much more than a brief nap or a few minutes to prop your feet up on the ottoman. This soul rest is a tranquility of the mind that only comes from our Savior. It is a gift of His grace.
Is your spiritual “check engine” light on? Then it is time to hit the pause button. It is time to listen to His whispers, come to Him, and spend time in His presence. Jesus doesn't even place requirements on who gets to come. He says “all.” No one is excluded. We can all enjoy His strength, love, and gentleness. So today, when you are feeling burdened, cry out to God. He is a Good Father who bends His head to hear His children. Rest and Jesus will come.
Act:
Find a quiet place and call out to Jesus. He will hear your calls. Tell Him your concerns and worries. Breathe in His presence. Rest.
Pray:
Jesus, I can get so busy with life and my troubles that I miss running to You. Help me slow down and hand my cares over to You. Enable me to trust that You are at work. Help me to believe that You are enough. Amen.
