Have you ever seen the “Mind the Gap” signs in the United Kingdom, warning rail passengers to watch their steps? It makes me wonder if we need similar reminders in our daily lives – in our cars, homes, and even churches. There can be a noticeable gap between what we profess as Christians and how we actually live, especially at home and in the workplace.

The way we live truly matters. There’s something called an integrity gap, which is the difference between what we say and how we live. Developing integrity and character isn’t a quick fix; it requires our wholehearted commitment. Integrity can feel elusive, like trying to hold on to a cloud. The dictionary defines integrity as “sticking to moral principles,” which is a vague definition because people can be their own moral authority.

What does it mean to live with true integrity? It’s about basing our words and actions on what God says is right. After all, he is the ultimate source of truth and righteousness. When we claim God as our Creator, we acknowledge that his standards are the foundation of true integrity. Any other source of values or truth is merely a human opinion and falls short of true integrity.

Living with integrity means saying “yes” to God’s standards, regardless of the consequences. It’s about minding the gap between our private and public lives, knowing that God sees everything – and our actions are ultimately for him. Let’s strive to live with unwavering integrity, honoring God in all aspects of our lives.

Ask God to reveal areas in your life where there may be a gap between what you profess and how you live, and to guide you in aligning your actions with his truth.

Pray

Lord, search my heart and reveal to me any areas where there is a disconnect between what I profess and how I live. Show me where I may have compromised my integrity or fallen short of aligning with your truth. Give me strength and courage to stand firm on your principles. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
