Peace
Read:
Luke 2:14, “Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those whom His favor rests.”
John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”
Think:
Obviously, Christmas can be a stressful time; just take a stroll through your local mall. We all get caught up with trying to provide the perfect holiday for our loved ones. We worry about family conflicts, getting the Christmas cookies iced correctly, perfectly wrapped gifts, or the exorbitant cost of presents. Before we know it, we find ourselves longing for a little of the quiet and peace on those Christmas card scenes we get in the mail.
In 1914 WW1 was full-blown, but on Christmas Day, the soldiers themselves decided to lay down their weapons in honor of Christmas. The sound of gunfire was replaced with the sounds of soldiers singing Christmas carols. At that moment, there was a little peace in the midst of the conflict.
What conflict are you dealing with this season? What anxious scenario are you facing? No matter the specific circumstance or situation, God has promised to be your peace. Take that rest, that deep breath, because He is here. His Peace is here, and His presence is here.
Act:
Take time to be still and speak to God. Slow down a few moments and read scripture (Luke 1-2), pray, and listen to worship music.
Pray:
Jesus, quiet my soul. Help me find rest with You. And show me who I can invite to experience Your peace at our Christmas experiences this year. Use me to extend Your peace to others! Amen.
