There Is More

Read

John 10:10 “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.”

Think

We’re surrounded by messages promising more—more success, more adventure, more happiness. Every scroll whispers, “If you just had this, you’d finally feel full.” But the more we chase, the more empty we often feel.

Jesus speaks into that emptiness. In John 10:10, he contrasts the thief—who steals joy and peace—with himself, the Good Shepherd who gives abundant life. The original word for “abundant” doesn’t mean more stuff. It means overflowing—a life rooted in purpose, filled with peace, and anchored in hope.

One pastor said, “Sin steals. Grace restores.” What the world offers is often a counterfeit—temporary highs with lasting consequences. But Jesus doesn’t patch us up; he makes us whole. Spurgeon put it this way: “Christ does not give us a little life; he gives us life in abundance.”

It’s easy to settle for survival mode—living for weekends, distractions, or approval. But Jesus didn’t come to help us get by—he came to set us free. Free from the lie that this is all there is. Free to live with joy that doesn’t depend on circumstance.

Pop star Billie Eilish once said, “I’ve had everything I ever wanted…and I’m still not happy.” That haunting honesty echoes the truth: this world can’t give what only Christ can. If life feels empty, it’s not because you want too much—it’s because you’ve settled for too little. Jesus offers more. And he is enough.

Apply

Trade one distraction for connection. Swap ten minutes of scrolling for ten minutes with God—read a Psalm, journal, or pray. Watch how that small shift begins to fill you in a deeper way.

Pray

Heavenly Father, I know you offer more than this world ever could. Help me stop chasing what leaves me empty and start living the full, abundant life you promised. Fill me with your purpose, peace, and presence today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
