What Jesus Would Say to Donald Trump: Be Humble
Read:
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.”
James 4:10 “Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.”
Think:
The story is told of a man who entered a contest to determine who was the most humble person. When he won, he was given a badge of merit – but he was later disqualified when he wore it.
To be humble means to recognize that we are not self-sufficient, but dependent on God for everything we need. Our lives, our salvation, our hope, our strength, and our abilities are all gifts from God. When we submit our will to God's will, we witness his power and grow in our character. In other words, we begin to look more like Jesus. But achieving Jesus-level humility takes time.
Being humble means acknowledging that we are not perfect and that we need God's guidance. It’s recognizing that everything we have is a gift from God. Our accomplishments, talents, and possessions are not solely our own, but rather blessings from above. By acknowledging this, we begin to align our will with God's and rely on his strength rather than our own.
To further understand the importance of humility, we can look at the example of Jesus. Despite being the Son of God, Jesus humbled himself and became human to serve us and die for our sins. He washed the feet of his disciples, demonstrated compassion to the sick, and forgave those who persecuted him. It was when he humbled himself that he was able to live out his greatest purpose.
Apply:
Humility doesn’t mean thinking less of yourself, it means thinking of yourself less. Be aware of others around you. Think about their needs over your own.
Pray:
Holy Spirit, make me conscious of people around me. Help me to position my heart and walk humbly. I choose to live without pride and follow your lead. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
