Who is Jesus?
Read:
Luke 9:18 “Once when Jesus was praying in private and his disciples were with him, he asked them, 'Who do the crowds say I am?’”
Think:
If you posed the question, “Who is Jesus?” to a large group of people, you might receive a range of responses. Like the disciples in Luke 9, some might say he was a healer, a wise teacher, or a good person, among other descriptions. However, the crucial question Jesus asks in the passage is directed to his followers: “But what about you? Who do you say I am?” Peter confidently replies, “God’s Messiah” (Luke 9:20).
Peter saw Jesus for more than just what he did. He saw him for who he truly was – the promised Messiah and the Son of God. He knew Jesus’ identity and acknowledged his place in his own life.
So, who do you say Jesus is? Do you recognize him only for what he can do for you, or is he the sole purpose and center of your life? Is he the risen Savior who has redeemed you from sin? Is he the King of your heart and the ultimate Ruler of your life? Answering this question truthfully and sincerely is essential for every individual.
