Why Can’t I Let Go?

Have you ever felt like you’ve mastered the art of surrendering to God, only to find yourself struggling when life throws its toughest challenges your way? It’s easy to turn to Jesus in times of ease, but when the storms rage on, our faith gets tested. Could it be that our reluctance to fully run to God stems from a lack of understanding of who he truly is? If we genuinely believed in God’s goodness and selfless character, wouldn’t we willingly surrender control to him at all times?

Let’s face it, none of us can ever claim to fully comprehend the depth of God’s character. He surpasses human understanding, making it impossible for us to grasp every aspect of his being. Even in our closest human relationships, there are always new discoveries and surprises. Similarly, our journey with God is one of continuous growth and revelation, with each step revealing more of his beauty and majesty. However, this doesn’t mean that surrendering to God is an unattainable feat. It’s a lifelong journey of deepening intimacy and trust in him. Just as investing time in a close relationship leads to greater understanding and trust, so does investing in our relationship with God. Spending time in prayer, meditating on his Word, and seeking his presence allows us to draw closer to him and deepen our trust in his promises.

One of the most powerful ways to enhance our relationship with God is through Scripture. The Bible serves as a treasure trove of knowledge about who God is and what he has promised his children. As we dive into his Word, we gain a deeper understanding of his character and his unfailing love for us, which in turn strengthens our trust in him.

Let’s commit to this journey of surrendering to God, knowing that with each step, we draw closer to him and experience the peace and fulfillment that comes from trusting in his perfect plan for our lives.

Apply

Identify areas of your life where you struggle to surrender control to God. It could be relationships, finances, career decisions, or fears about the future. Take practical steps to surrender these areas to God, trusting that his plans are far greater than your own.

Pray

Lord, forgive me for the times when I have doubted your goodness and struggled to surrender control of my life to you. Help me to rest in the assurance that your plans for me are good and perfect. Teach me to surrender my desires and fears to you, knowing that you are trustworthy and that your ways are higher than mine. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
