Wise Men
Read:
Matthew 2:1-2, “After Jesus was born in Bethlehem in Judea, during the time of King Herod, Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, ‘Where is the one who has been born king of the Jews? We saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.’”
Think:
The Magi were powerful, highly influential leaders from the east who arrived in Jerusalem looking for the King, but not Herod. They said they had seen the star in the east signaling his coming and wanted to worship him, the one who would deliver the Jews from slavery.
There are so many theories about who the Magi were – from astrologers, to mystics, to even kings. But the more you read and study, you can conclude that, regardless of their title, they were wise men – not just because of what history says, but because they sought after Jesus.
Seeking Jesus is a continual process. Though we can always go to Him for help – the Bible tells us He is a present help in time of need – He wants us to pursue Him, to know Him, to trust Him. So, like the wise men, let’s seek His presence every day.
Act:
Set aside time to seek His presence today. Tell Him what’s on your mind, what you are thankful for, and where you need His wisdom. Then wait and listen.
Pray:
Jesus, help me to pursue You and seek You, even in the midst of the busyness of my life. I know that true wisdom is found only in You. Thank you for always being right here with me! Amen.
