Empty, Bored, and Disappointed
Read
Isaiah 55:1-3 "Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters; and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and your labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David."
Think
This invitation is for everyone who is emotionally thirsty and hungry, longing for peace and joy. It's for everyone who feels complacent, insecure, resentful, impatient, disappointed, or frightened. God promises to satisfy our hearts with himself. He promises that when we come to him, when we sit in his presence, he will not only meet us there, but he will fuel us and fill us up.
So, the question is, why are we empty? Why do we get bored or disappointed? The simple answer is that we have ignored the invitation to dine with the King of kings. We have taken our hunger and fed on food that doesn't sustain us. We have eaten at a table that doesn't satisfy us. But as we spend time with him, we realize he is the bread of life. We come to understand that only Jesus can saturate that emptiness in our souls.
