Fairy Tales

Read:

Psalm 100:5 "For the Lord is good, and his love endures forever; his faithfulness continues through all generations."

Jeremiah 31:3 "The Lord appeared to us in the past, saying: 'I have loved you with an everlasting love; I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.'"

Think:

Everyone always dreams of the fairy tale romance, the Disney happily-ever-after, the Hallmark movie love story. But no matter how much people love each other, that love always falls short. It always fails in some manner. Human love is not perfect. Even though we can love people with our whole heart, we will still fall short. But God's love is everlasting and unfailing. His love is unconditional; it is in His very nature. It doesn't depend on our actions; it motivates His actions. He sent His Son to die for us while we were sinners.

God's love is consistent; it never fails. We never have to ask, "Will God love me today?" His love isn't fickle; it never gives up. His love isn't an occasional gesture, but it is Him. In a world where love is fleeting or grasping, conditional or limited, God's adoration for us is stable, genuine, healing, comforting, and enduring.

Application:

Because He loves us so much and loves us well, we can love others. With whom can we be more patient this week? When do we need to be more generous? Where can we show kindness?

Pray:

God, thank You for Your consistent love. Thank You that Your love never changes. Create in me a desire to be satisfied with Your unfailing love and show others Your love. Amen.
