Get Help, You Matter

Psalm 34:18 ”The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."
Matthew 11:28 "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
Think
King David was overwhelmed by depression, crying out, "How long, Lord? Will you forget me forever?" (Psalm 13:1). Job, once full of hope, lost everything and wished for death (Job 3). Elijah, the powerful prophet, was so desperate and afraid he asked God to end his life (1 Kings 19). Even King Solomon, blessed with wisdom and wealth, said he hated life (Ecclesiastes 2:17). Jeremiah, known as the weeping prophet, cursed the day he was born (Jeremiah 15:10). The Bible doesn’t gloss over these raw and painful moments. It doesn’t hide the stories of those who struggled. And neither should we.
Mental illness doesn’t discriminate—it affects the strong, the wise, the faithful. And it’s not a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. From the beginning of creation, humanity was whole until sin fractured that perfection. The first thing Adam and Eve did after sin entered the world was hide. Hiding, pretending, and isolating have always been our go-to responses when we feel broken. But God didn’t create us to hide. He made us to be known, seen, and loved, even in our darkest moments.
It’s okay to love Jesus and seek help. It’s okay to follow Christ and see a therapist or take medicine. There’s no shame in reaching out for support when you’re struggling. We don’t protect God’s reputation by pretending we’re fine when we’re not. The Bible shows us that honesty about our pain allows God to meet us in our brokenness with his grace. You don’t have to hide from him. You matter—to God and us. You are loved exactly as you are; your healing is part of his plan.
Jesus came for the broken, the hurting, and the weary. He invites you to bring your pain, struggles, and fears into the light. You don’t have to carry this burden alone. Through prayer, therapy, medication, and community, God provides ways for us to find healing. You matter, and he sees you, even when the world feels dark.
Apply
If you’re feeling overwhelmed or struggling emotionally, take one simple step: talk to someone you trust—a friend, a pastor, or a therapist. You don’t have to carry the weight alone.
Pray
Heavenly Father, I’m struggling, and I don’t want to hide it anymore. Help me to be honest with you and with others about what I’m going through. Give me the courage to seek help, and remind me that I matter to you. I trust you to guide me through this and bring healing. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
