I Am the Resurrection and the Life

Read
John 11:25 “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die…’”
Think
You know that feeling when something in your life feels too far gone? Maybe it’s a relationship that shattered, a dream that crumbled, or a part of you that just feels… dead. That’s exactly how Martha felt when her brother Lazarus had been in the tomb for four days. Hope was gone. But then Jesus arrived and said something radical: “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die” (John 11:25).
Jesus wasn’t just offering words of comfort—he was offering himself. He was saying, “I don’t just bring life. I am life.” And then, to prove it, he called Lazarus out of the grave. Can you imagine that moment? The smell of death still in the air, the grief still raw—until suddenly, the impossible happened. Lazarus walked out, alive. Jesus didn’t just restore his breath. He restored his future.
Tim Keller once said, “If Jesus is who he says he is, then even death itself is simply a doorway to greater joy.” Maybe right now, you’re standing in front of your own “tomb”—a place where hope seems buried. But here’s the truth: Jesus isn’t done. He’s still rolling stones away. He’s still speaking life into dead places. The same power that raised Lazarus, the same power that raised Jesus from the grave, is the same power at work in you.
So, what’s your next step? Maybe it’s surrendering that dead dream to God. Maybe it’s choosing to believe that your past mistakes don’t define you. Whatever it is, Jesus is calling you forward. The only question is, will you step out of the grave?

Take one step forward. Jesus called Lazarus out of the grave, but Lazarus had to step out. What’s your step? Is it forgiving someone? Asking for help? Trusting God with your future? Take one step today.
Pray
God, you are the resurrection and the life, and I trust you with the places in my life that feel hopeless. Help me to believe that nothing is too far gone for you to restore. Give me the courage to step forward in faith, knowing you are always working for my good. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
