Is the Bible Important?

Read

Matthew 24:35 “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.”

2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”

Think

The Bible isn’t just a book; it’s a profound God-given narrative that has shaped civilizations. It’s the bedrock upon which much of modern history stands, influencing cultural developments, inspiring great acts of charity, and sparking monumental movements in human rights. Consider its role: it has led to the founding of hospitals, the feeding and clothing of those in need, and the establishment of orphanages. This isn’t merely an ancient text; it’s a living, breathing document that continues to impact the world profoundly. Understanding its contents is essential to grasping the holy forces that have shaped the world in which we live. It’s not just for the religious—it’s for anyone who seeks to understand the divine hand behind it all, it’s for those longing and searching for more.

The power of the Bible extends far beyond its historical and cultural impact. Throughout history, individuals have endured persecution – and even death – to preserve its message. This enduring commitment speaks volumes about its significance. It’s more than just dedication; it’s a testament to the transformative power of the words held within. Kingdoms have risen and fallen under its influence, and its adversaries have never succeeded in silencing its message. The Bible is a beacon of resilience that God has kept throughout the centuries.

Scientifically and historically, the Bible stands out for its accuracy. Composed over a 1,500-year period and completed two millennia ago, its consistency with archeological finds and historical records is unmatched by any other ancient text. Every discovery and scholarly study that seeks to challenge the Bible has, instead, reinforced its credibility. This precision is a compelling reason to dive into its pages; it’s not just about faith, but about acknowledging a text whose authenticity and reliability have been rigorously vetted and validated for centuries.

Beyond history and science, the Bible offers a message of hope and personal transformation. It speaks of freedom and dignity, elevating the worth of every individual. At its heart is the story of Jesus, a figure unlike any other in history—revered not only in Christianity but respected across various religions. Unlike other historical figures who taught and then passed into memory, Jesus’ resurrection signifies a message of eternal hope. Reading the Bible connects you with his teachings and gives hope and healing to a broken and hurting world. Approach its pages with an open mind and heart; it promises to be a journey that will change your life forever.

Apply

As seen in Acts 2:42, the early Christians regularly gathered to learn and discuss the scriptures. Join a Bible study class or small group. Engaging with others allows for discussion and helps clarify difficult passages.

Pray

Lord, help me to not just see the words on the page, but also to hear your voice speaking to me through them. As I read and study, illuminate my mind with the context and clarity needed to appreciate each passage fully. Strengthen my resolve to meet with you each day – reading your Word and applying it to my life. And help me to share what I’m experiencing with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
