The Dangers of Disobedience
Read:
1 Samuel 15:10-23 "The word of the Lord came to Samuel: 'I regret that I have made Saul king, for he has turned back from following me and has not performed my commandments.' And Samuel was angry, and he cried to the Lord all night."
Think:
The tale of King Saul is a poignant narrative about the steep price of disobedience. Despite clear instructions to eradicate the Amalekites, Saul chose to spare the best of the spoils for himself. He convinced himself that God was keeping something from him and that he deserved more. He second-guessed God’s wisdom and his goodness. His disobedience directly challenged God's command, leading to his downfall.
Disobedience to God can be subtler than we think, often creeping in when we prioritize our desires over God's commandments. Though we may not be fully aware, our disobedience is evidence that we don’t trust God’s wisdom and his goodness. And that pride is the first step in our downfall.
