Vote Your Faith

Proverbs 14:34 "Righteousness exalts a nation, but sin condemns any people."
1 Corinthians 16:13 "Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith; be courageous; be strong."

Lyndon Johnson said in his Inaugural Address, “Under this covenant of justice, we have become a nation—prosperous, great, and mighty. And we have kept our freedom. But we have no promise from God that our greatness will endure… If we fail now, we shall have forgotten in abundance what we learned in hardship: that democracy rests on faith, that freedom asks more than it gives.” His words remind us that the future of our nation isn’t guaranteed but rather shaped by our choices and the values we live out.
As followers of Christ, we have a unique opportunity when we vote. It’s not just a civic duty—it’s a chance to reflect the heart of God through our choices. Each vote represents our values, shaped by what we believe about justice, compassion, and truth. We don’t vote simply because we want to back a political party; we vote because we want to see God’s principles reflected in the decisions that shape our communities and country.
Freedom is a privilege, but it comes with a weight of responsibility. As Johnson said, “Freedom asks more than it gives.” As we approach voting, we can’t just go through the motions. It’s an act of faith. We pray for wisdom, seek out leaders who reflect God’s heart and engage with a mindset that sees beyond politics to something deeper: living out our faith in the public square.
So, pause and reflect on your values as you get ready to vote. Think about what matters most—justice, mercy, truth—and ask yourself how your faith shapes your decisions. Vote not just for what’s convenient but for what’s right, knowing God honors our steps to reflect him in the world around us.

Think about godly principles from scripture and then measure them against the platform presented by each party. A Christian-based website to help you research platforms and voting from a biblical perspective is My Faith Votes (www.myfaithvotes.org).
Pray
Lord, guide my heart and mind as I prepare to vote. Help me to stand firm in your truth and to make decisions that reflect your justice, mercy, and righteousness. Give me wisdom and courage to vote according to your will, and may my actions honor you. In Jesus' name. Amen.
