What Now?
Read
Luke 24:13-17 “Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him. He asked them, ‘What are you discussing together as you walk along?’ They stood still, their faces downcast.”
Think
On Saturday, the day between the crucifixion and resurrection, there's an eerie silence surrounding Jesus and the Father. The body of Christ lies in Joseph's tomb, still and silent, just like the stone sealing it shut. It's a stark contrast to the events of Friday when God's presence was unmistakable – tearing temple curtains, shaking the earth, darkness surrounding the earth, and the sacrifice of his Son. But on Saturday, both Jesus and God remained silent.
This silent Saturday often gets overlooked in Easter discussions. We focus on Friday's crucifixion and Sunday's resurrection, but Saturday, with its unanswered questions and lingering doubts, is just as significant. We all experience our own silent Saturdays – the times between struggle and solution, between prayer and answer.
In the silence of Saturday, doubts and fears can torment us. We wonder if God is angry or if we've disappointed him. We question why he doesn't intervene in our circumstances. But like Jesus in the tomb, we're called to be still, stay silent, and trust in God's faithfulness.
Just as Jesus knew God would not abandon him in the grave, we must trust that God will not leave us alone in our struggles. His silence doesn't mean he's absent or indifferent. Saturdays serve a purpose – they allow us to experience the full force of God's strength and appreciate his intervention even more when it comes.
So if you find yourself in a silent Saturday today, be patient. Trust that God is at work behind the scenes, preparing to bring about his perfect solution in his perfect timing.
