1 Timothy 2:1-2 “I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession, and thanksgiving be made for all people—for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.”

Think

Election season can stir up high hopes and, sometimes, deep disappointments. We pour time into researching, praying, and voting, desiring the best outcome. But what do we do when the results don’t turn out as we’d hoped? How do we trust God, even when we feel let down?

The Bible reminds us that our hope is not in any political outcome but in a God who reigns above it all. Proverbs 19:21 tells us, “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” Even when the path seems uncertain, God’s purpose is moving forward. Charles Spurgeon once said, “God is too good to be unkind and too wise to be mistaken. When we cannot trace his hand, we must trust his heart.” Even in unexpected outcomes, we can be assured that God guides history according to his wisdom.

Consider Daniel, who faithfully served God under leaders whose values clashed with his own. Instead of fearing or growing frustrated, he trusted God, served with integrity, and prayed for those in authority. His example encourages us to do the same. We may not always understand God’s ways, but we can still seek to act justly, trust his timing, and pray for those he places in leadership.

So, let’s keep doing what’s right and trusting God, even when things don’t go our way. Pray for our leaders to lead with wisdom and justice, and trust that God’s hand guides all things beyond what we can see.

Apply

After the election, take a moment to pray for the officials elected, even those you may not have voted for. Ask God to grant them wisdom.

Lord, thank you for being in control, regardless of the outcome. Help me to trust your purpose and find peace in your plan. I pray for our leaders—that you would give them wisdom and guide them to serve justly. Help me to act in ways that reflect you. In Jesus name. Amen.
