What Would Jesus Say To Joe Rogan: Speak the Truth in Love
Read:
Ephesians 4:15 “Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is the head, that is, Christ.”
Think:
Joe Rogan is a person who is unafraid to speak his mind, and his podcasts have allowed him to share his opinions with millions of people worldwide. However, as followers of Jesus Christ, we are called to not only speak the truth but to do so with love. The Apostle Paul reminds us in Ephesians 4:15 that speaking the truth in love is a hallmark of Christian maturity.
As we consider how to speak the truth with love, we can look to Jesus as our ultimate example. He always spoke the truth, but did so with compassion, empathy, and a desire for the other person's well-being. Jesus never sought to demean or belittle others, even when he challenged their beliefs or behavior.
When we speak the truth in love, we demonstrate our commitment to the well-being of others. We recognize that our words have the power to build up or tear down, to encourage or discourage. Speaking truth with love means that we prioritize the relationship over being right or winning an argument.
Joe Rogan's podcasts touch on a wide range of topics, and while we may not agree with everything he says, we can still engage with him in a spirit of love. We can listen to him with an open mind, seek to understand his perspective, and engage in thoughtful dialogue. When we do this, we model the kind of love that Jesus showed us, a love that seeks to bridge divides and build relationships.
Apply:
Today, recognize the power of your words. Speak truth sheathed in grace. Use wisdom and mercy as you confront or approach difficult conversations.
Pray:
Dear Lord, help us to speak the truth with love. Give us the courage to share our convictions, but also the humility to listen to others with an open mind. May our words build up rather than tear down, and may our interactions with others reflect your love and grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.
