Matthew 6:24 “No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”
Think
"One of the most dangerous things about money is that if we love it, it will lead us. On the other hand, if we lead it, it will serve us." – Pastor Ed Young
Have you ever seen a child clutching their favorite toy, refusing to let it go, even as they beg for something new? Their little hands grip it tightly, scared that letting go means losing what matters most. It’s a funny and familiar scene because, deep down, we do the same thing—we’re clutching our money, our stuff, or even our plans, afraid to loosen our grip.
When we love money, it starts to lead us. It shapes our decisions, steals our peace, and leaves us chasing “enough” that never comes. But when we trust God with our resources—when we let go of the first and best to him—everything shifts. Suddenly, money isn’t our master; it’s a tool in God’s hands, used to bless others and change lives.
C.S. Lewis said, “Prosperity knits a man to the world. He feels he is finding his place in it, while really it is finding its place in him.” That’s why tithing is so powerful—it breaks that bond. It’s not about giving something up; it’s about gaining something far greater: freedom, peace, and a heart aligned with God.
So, what are you holding onto? Is fear keeping you from trusting God with your first and best? Like that child, maybe letting go feels hard. But when you release what’s in your hands, you make room for God to bless you in ways you never imagined. Don’t let money lead you. Trust God to lead and watch how it transforms your heart and life.

Pray
Lord, thank you for reminding me that everything I have belongs to you. Help me to trust you with my resources and to loosen my grip on the things that hold me back. Teach me to lead with generosity, finding freedom and joy in putting you first. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
